This sleek purl white Valiant sedan has been in the same family since new and is now coming to the market for the first time in 58 years!
The AP5 Valiant was introduced in May 1963 replacing the SV1; it was a departure from the previous model with more neutral styling. The AP5 was also the first Valiant model to be manufactured in Australia though the 225ci 6 cylinder slant engine was carried over from the previous model and was still imported. The AP5 range was increased with the introduction of the upmarket ‘Regal’ model that featured different badgework, better seats and interior trim + carpet, auto transmission as standard, heater with integrated demister and white-wall tyres.
This Valiant was delivered new in Wagga NSW with registration number DEB276 on the 15/11/1963 to a Mr’s Jean Harding. The vehicle remained in her possession being daily driven until passing it onto her nephew 28 years ago whom is now the current owner. It was driven around for a few years then stored for 25 years before the current owner decided it was time to get it driving once again.
The car was stripped back a bare rolling shell (with motor in situ), dents removed, primed and painted in a stunning purl white inside and out. All fluids were replaced along with a brake rebuild and checking the engine and gearbox for sound operation. The interior is all original besides carpets and remains in almost ‘as new’ condition (besides for two small holes either side of the front bench seat caused by the seat springs pinching the material), remarkable for a vehicle this age! The Valiant drives excellently with plenty of power from the original 225ci 6-cylinder engine driving through the 3-speed push button automatic. The original rims were swapped for 17-inch chrome wire types however the originals have been kept in safe storage should a new owner a more period look. Original owner’s manual and service log accompany the Valiant including some receipts from work carried out on the vehicle recently.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a low owner, largely original valiant in an ever appreciating market!
