Your chance to own and drive a piece of Australian motoring history, this bright red Deluxe XP Falcon would make a great family cruiser for the weekends or even a reliable daily driver.
 
Produced from 1965 to 1966, the XP falcon was the fourth and final iteration of the first generation of the Australian made Falcons. Though the Falcon XP was an iconic vehicle for Ford Australia setting the way for 5 decades of success, it wasn’t for significant challenges at the time. Mechanical problems stemming from premature suspension and transmission failures of the earlier models (XK, XL and XM) meant that Ford Australia had to modify the previous model to stand up to Australian conditions. Some of these changes included; a ‘Borgwarner 35’ 3 speed auto transmission replacing the earlier 2 speed on upmarket models, torque box around the body frame to increase rigidity along with improvements to the steering and suspension. Combined, these changes greatly improved the Falcon making it far more durable and refined. Visually, the XP sported a redesigned front end that was more squared off compared to the previous model with other refinements to the dashboard layout and seating with upper spec models gaining padded dashes, bucket seats and even a centre console on the Futura to name a few. Three engine choices were available from a 144ci base engine through to the 200ci “Super Pursuit” with transmission options of a 3 speed column shift manual, 2 or 3 speed automatic.  
 
This lovely XP drives very well with plenty of power from the 170ci inline 6 sending power through the 3 speed column shift manual. Additional features include front factory fitted sun visor, rear venetians, period looking Bluetooth radio system and aftermarket alloy rims with white wall tire stripes. The deep red paint with white roof presents nicely with a few small imperfections but holds a very nice shine. Only a small amount of rust appearing on the top driver’s side gutter which can easily be attended too. The contrasting red/white interior sets off the whole package nicely. 
 
Recent mechanical work includes a reconditioned head (converted to unleaded), rebuilt gearbox, new front suspension bushes, new steering links and a new exhaust system.
 
Overall this XP Falcon is in good condition for its age that can be driven as is or further restored to a higher standard if desired.
