1968 MGB GT Manual O/D
Get behind the wheel of one of the quintessential British sports cars – the MGB GT
A little rarer than the almost abundant MGB roadster – the MGB GT presents a more usable classic car with elegant simple lines, wide parts availability and the same charm as its convertible cousins.
After the introduction of the MGB in 1963, the GT appeared on the scene a few years later in 1965 with a Pininfarina designed 2+2 hardtop coupe with rear hatch offering extra utility. Fundamentally it used the same lower body, mechanicals and interior as the convertible making it easy to source replacement parts when needed. Both roadster and coupes were available with the 1.8 litre inline 4 cylinder B series engine producing around 95hp.
Early Mk1 MGB’s had 3 main bearing engines, non-syncro 1st gear and ‘pull’ door handles. Later Mk1’s changed to 5 main baring engines for reliability and push button door handles.
This late model Mk1 MGB presents nicely in its old English white paint work with painted 14inch wire wheels. Under the hood is the standard 1.8 litre B series engine mated to a 4 speed gearbox with overdrive on 3rd and 4th gears making highway driving a breeze.
Recently the BGT has been serviced, fitted with electronic ignition and fitted with a Tourist Trophy stainless steel exhaust now making a nice burble. Though little in the way of history files come with the MG, we can tell it is an older restoration with a few small blemishes here and there but overall, in very presentable condition.
This sporting British icon is begging to be driven by its next owner.
