‘Grace, Pace and Space’ is what defines the Jaguar XJS range to a Tee and this XJS is a prime example of that. With a powerful yet silently smooth V12 engine under the bonnet, its turbine like power will comfortably waft you to speeds well in excess of the legal speed limit.

The XJS was the replacement for the aging E-type of the time in 1975 and was a stark contrast to its sporting predecessor. While the E-type flexed its sporting credentials, the XJS was designed to be a more comfortable long-distance touring machine. At the XJS’s introduction, the press and motoring enthusiasts were shocked by its sharper styling and ‘flying buttress’ (coupe only) rear end. The revised series ‘2’ XJS had nicer front and rear bumpers while the interior was once again adorned with real wood veneer in stark contrast to the previous models blacked out interior. The most notable change however was the addition of the ‘HE’ (High efficiency) V12 engine which gave a slight increase in power but reduced fuel consumption.

From 1975, Jaguar had not produced a convertible and pressure was mounting for the roof to be removed. Initially jaguar came out with a cabriolet called the XJ-SC in 1985 as a stop gap measure though did not prove to be as successful as first thought. From 1986 some XJS’s were converted to convertibles by Hess & Eisenhardt who took postproduction XJS coupes and turned them into convertibles at great expense! It wasn’t until 1988 that Jaguar would make its own factory convertible XJS.

This two owner, 1989 XJS convertible presents in lovely original condition in Westminster blue with Savile Grey leather interior and deep Bur Walnut wood inlay. It has remained in the possession of a jaguar enthusiast who is also part of the Jaguar Club of QLD for the past 17 years who has kept this XJS in excellent condition through that time.

The exterior paint is completely original and has no accident damage over its 31 years of life (small imperfections aside of course). The interior is also completely original and untouched since new and presents in near new condition with soft subtle leather interior, rich wood inlays and deep carpet. It also retains the original Jaguar/Clarion radio and near full tool kit.

This vehicle has gone through over $10,000 worth of mechanical work to the cooling system, suspension, brakes, fuel injection system, ignition system and air-conditioning with an upgraded compressor.

Driving this XJS through the countryside is one of life’s true pleasures, with silky smooth V12 power silently wafting you along – what a true grand tourer should do.

Priced accordingly to the market the Jaguar Includes balance of QLD registration and RWC. XJSV12 plates extra.
